Slove-ly views
Usually I’ll listen to one or two podcasts whilst riding. If I know I have a relatively boring or straightforward road section coming up, for example. Not today, didn’t need it.
Slovenia kept serving up slices of stunning landscape around every corner. It was like a succession of Microsoft screen savers.

The foothills of the Julien Alps framed my ride over gravel tracks through vineyards and tiny villages. At times I followed a river, often I was off the bike and panting up steep uphill, sometimes it was rocky off-road through heavily wooded trails. Didn’t matter though, it still looked great.
There was one point when, on reaching a bridge under reconstruction, I thought I would have to go miles back uphill. I took a chance on a tiny track through the first though, and succeeded in making my own detour to the next bridge down.

As usual the afternoon heat took its toll, and I’d already done a significant amount of climbing. So 10km out from my destination I took to the tarmac and rolled in.
I’m staying in a town that has a cave system large enough to allow a train to run through it. I just caught the last tour of the day. What an incredible place! Absolutely enormous.
