Day Nine – 130km – Karlsruhe to Obernai

Rhine-o

Steve-o is immediately in time with the rhythm of the day: up early, stuff breakfast down, and get some Kms under the belt before it gets too hot.

Steve’s arrival. He’s not the one in the middle

This morning we had to cross the river again, this time over to France, country number four.

We left the mighty Rhine after a short gravel section, and headed to Strasbourg for a supermarket lunch in the beautiful old town.

The last Rhine section

At Strasbourg we decided to leave the Eurovelo 15, which I had been following since the Netherlands, and onto the more scenic but longer number 5. This takes us west and then south, through pretty Alsatian villages and vineyards.

In the relentless heat of the afternoon we slowed the pace,  following mercifully cooler wooded canalsides over a couple of hills (little training hills for the Alps) and into Obernai.

Well done, lads! I feel like you’re auditioning for your own Bob Mortimer ‘Gone Cycling’ style show, with Muttley as Paul Whitehouse in his “In’t milk brilliant!” role (check out those ears when you’re first introduced 😂).

    Love Kirsty x
