The Flatlands
After the fearsome hills of East Anglia it was good to barely see one today. Plain sailing through some classic Dutch countryside, almost always with a canal in sight.
But first, the whole ship was awakened at 05.30 with a jaunty jingle directly into every cabin, to remind us we could get up and spend some money in the onboard restaurants. I ate my own supply of oats in my berth in protest. That’ll teach them!
Rolling off, I headed north, then eastwards, inland. The Dutch cycling infrastructure really is impressive. If you’re on the road it probably means you missed the dedicated cycle path.
There were windmills, canals, open flatlands, and at one point a fairytale castle.

I found a beautiful campsite for the night with about 10 pitches and a friendly owner.
Tomorrow I will reach the Rhine, which will be my companion for the next thousand kilometres.
